as usual, the scan can't capture how this piece really looks D:
Exotic starling species are some of my favorite birds! From left to right, these are a Rosy Starling, a Bali Myna (it's technically a starling) and a Violet-Backed Starling. Damn, that purple was hard :I I only have like 4 shades of purple, and these guys are really iridescent and have like 5000 shades of purple. I feel like I didn't do the Violet-Backed Starling justice but I'm proud of the other two.
if anyone knows the significance of the violet-backed starling they get a cookie
I'm thinking of making a series of bird drawings like this. All the birds in the drawing would be related somehow. For example, all green birds, all corvidae (crow family) or all fish-eaters. If anyone wants to suggest a species or theme, go right ahead. I'm thinking of doing hummingbirds next since they're awesome and I need to practice iridescence :U
Critique is appreciated very much :3
time spent- worked on it on and off for a week, I'd say approx. 5 hours working time all together materials- prismacolor pencils and micron pens references- [link][link][link]
Great work! I think the violet-backed starling's plumage looks fantastic, actually. You managed to convey the depth pretty convincingly with only four colors
These are just so beautiful :'D And the violet one, being iridescent, I think you did a darn good job on it~ Does it's significance have something to do with its scientific name by any chance? :3 It would be amazing if further bird pics like this had their wings outstretched and whatnot~
Overall this is great, but the Bali Myna's right foot (our right) seems a bit off in perspective. It might just be me, but it seems like it should face forwards more, rather than at a side angle~
Perhaps a trio of poicephalus parrots?
A Senegal, a male red belly and a Meyers parrot. (Could also do jardines or brown head but I find the first three to be most visually interesting)
ooh those parrots are cool, especially the first one. I might do those :> thanks for the suggestion!
I actually used more than four colors
did a darn good job on it~
